Itzchak Tarkay

Itzchak Tarkay (1935-2012) was an Israeli painter and graphic artist known for his Post-Impressionist portraiture and a leading member of a new generation of figurative artists.  Born in Subotica, he studied at the  Bezalel Academy of Art and Design and later graduated from the  Avni Institute of Art and Design in 1956. He worked in acrylic and watercolor, and his expressive, delicate brushstrokes and use of color gave his figurative paintings a fantastical quality.  His work is also characterized by highly saturated and colorful compositions that he achieved through layering serigraphs.  The artist showed his works in oil, acrylic and watercolor at the International Art Expo in New York.
