Georges Braque

Georges Braque (1882-1963) was a French painter and sculptor who was a leader in Modern art and founder of the Cubist movement, along with Picasso. He developed the Cubist aesthetic and refined dramatic points of view and introducing collage elements in revolutionary works that challenged the  standards of artistic representation at the time. His oil paintings from 1908 to 1913 focused on geometry and fragmented perspective. After working closely with Picasso in 1909, he produced largely monochromatic paintings of sequential forms.  His personal style continued to evolve throughout his career across media such as paintings, graphics, and sculptures.  He gradually moved away from the abstractions of Cubism, incorporating more figurative elements.
