Frederick Hart

Frederick Hart (1943-1999), born in Atlanta, Georgia, was an American master sculptor known for his work that blends the traditional human figure with sensuality and innovative materials.  He pioneered the use of clear acrylic resin to create cast figurative sculptures. He patented the process by which one clear acrylic sculpture was embedded within another. He studied at the University of South Carolina and later apprenticed with the Giorgio Gianetti Architectural Plaster Studio in Washington D.C. From 1967 to 1971, he worked as an apprentice at the Washington National Cathedral, where he attained the rank of stone carver. He received numerous awards throughout his career, including the Newington-Cropsey Foundation Award for Excellence in the Arts in 1998.
