This large oil painting was created by Steinlen after the success of his Motocycles Comiot poster. It was presented as a gift to Monsieur Comiot in thanks for the commission. Features are identical except for a couple of small alterations. It was presented as a gift to Monsieur Comiot in thanks for the commission. The most striking difference is the woman's face: in the poster, a lengthened jawline and a softened expression bear the classic signatures of 1890's Art Nouveau; in this painting, a smaller, triangular face, plus cat eyes and a hardened expression seem to anticipate peak Art Deco by 20 years. In addition, the goose on the far left offers a far more comedic expression, as if guilty of a photo-bomb. In all, the level of detail and richness of color cannot be captured in a photograph, and is a testament to the artist's skill outside the realm of lithography.
