Don Prechtel (b. 1937) is an American Western painter and muralist known for his depictions of the Old West and American History. His work is characterized by its historical accuracy and detail. Born in Los Angeles, the artist has lived in Oregon since 1942 and has been a professional working artist since 1968.He is also a historian and avid collector of antique and military artifacts, which he incorporates into his paintings. His paintings are in private collections, museums, military installations, and collections in Europe. The artist has received numerous awards, including the John Scott People’s Choice Award, the Purchase Award, and the 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005 Heritage Award for the best representational paintings depicting Western Heritage.
