David Hockney (b. 1937) is a British painter, photographer, and set designer associated with the Pop Art movement and known for his portraits and naturalistic scenes of life in Los Angeles. Born in Bradford, Yorkshire, England, he attended the Royal College of Art. His Pop Art paintings capture the hedonistic spirit and culture of the Los Angeles, the leisure pursuits, and the wealthy. He visited California regularly in the 1960s and created his Swimming Pool series.He later settled in Los Angeles and transitioned from working with oil to acrylic paint. He has held retrospectives at the Royal College of Art in London, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
