David Davidovich Burliuk

David Davidovich Burliuk (1992-1967), renowned as the ‘father of Futurism”, was a Ukrainian painter who was a major contributor to Modern Art in the early 20th century. Born in Kharkiv, Ukraine, he studied at Munich Royal Academy of Arts and the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris.  His early work integrated Fauvist, Cubist, and Futurist styles combined with his interest in nature and forms and designs of Scythian culture as well as Ukrainian folklore. He participated in significant avant-garde exhibitions. His work is also in numerous collections worldwide, including the Dallas Museum of Art, the National Art Museum of Ukraine, the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid, and the State Russian Museum in St. Petersburg.
