Dale Chihuly, an American blown glass pioneer, was born in Tacoma, Washington, in 1941. He graduated from the first glass program in the country at the University of Wisconsin, and continued his education at the Rhode Island School of Design where he founded and instructed a glass program. Chihuly has received a Fulbright Fellowship, twelve honorary doctorates, and two fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts. The artist has worked at the Venini glass factory in Venice, and also co-founded the Glass School in Washington State.
