Corrado Cagli

Corrado Cagli (1910-1976) was largely a self-taught artist known for his paintings, murals, and lithography.  Born in Ancona, Italy, his family moved to Rome in 1915, and he later became an American citizen. Together with other prominent artists, he formed the Group of New Roman Painters, who exhibited at the Galleria del Milione in Milan and the Galerie Bongjean in Paris in 1933.  His work focused on historical and allegorical subjects, and he received many public commissions. In 1936, he painted the Battaglia di San Martino and become a key figure in the mural painting movement begun by the artists of the Novecento. During the postwar period, he experimented with various styles, including abstraction.
