VINTAGE JAPANESE FUKUSA CLOTH FOR TEA CEREMONY

Item Description:

Fukusa is Japanese textile used for gift-wrapping and/or for purifying equipment during a Japanese tea ceremony. Textile has two “mons” (Japanese emblems used to decorate and identify an individual, a family, or an institution or business entity) of cranes and three leaf pattern. This printed silk has hand embroidered gold threat. 27-3/4 x 25-1/2 (black lacquer with double dragon brass motif hangers).

Condition:

Good; has 1/2” slice in fabric at bottom center; has slight tea stains as proof of its use in tea ceremonies. Frame has moderate abrasions throughout.
