VINTAGE FUKUSA TEA CEREMONY CLOTH WITH JAPANESE OFFICIAL

Item Description:

Fukusa is Japanese textile used for gift-wrapping and/or for purifying equipment during a Japanese tea ceremony. The Japanese Official carries a bamboo stalk and a carp (a symbol for longevity); on his surcoat front is a three leaf 'mon' (Japanese emblems used to decorate and identify an individual, a family, or an institution or business entity). This printed silk has hand embroidered colored and gold threat. 27.75 x 25.5 inches (black lacquer with double dragon brass motif hangers).

Condition:

Excellent. Frame has moderate abrasions throughout.
