Christian Lacroix (estb. 1987) is a French couture house founded in 1987 by Chrisitan Lacroix and is known for its colorful, baroque style. The first collection in 1987 was inspired by the south of France and the costumes and jewels worn there. The pieces featured bright and deep colors accented by embroidery and trims of jewels, fur, and lace. In 1988, Lacroix completed his first full ready-to-wear collection, inspired by his couture creations, and it included knits and leathers. The house gained popularity in the early 2000s and grew with the creation of wedding dresses. The couture collections moved beyond influences of the south of France to include stripes, animal prints, and other large, vivid patterns.
