Carlo Scarpa (1906-1978), born in Venice, was a 20th century architect, designer, and glassmaker.Born in Venice, he studied architectural design at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts. In 1925, he received a personal commission from Giacomo Cappellin to restore the Palazzo da Mula in Murano, which housed his glassmaking company’s administrative offices. This work introduced him to glassmaking. The following year, he began to design glasswares for MVM Cappellin until 1932. That same year he went to Venini Glassworks in Venice, where he designed for 15 years and served as an artistic director.
