Banksy (born c.1974/1975) is a British street artist who started his career in Bristol as a graffiti artist. He gained fame for his graffiti, which combined spray paint and stenciling techniques with commercial, political, and contemporary imagery, instilled with ironic social commentary and humor. His work first began appearing on walls in and around Bristol and London’s Shoreditch district during the mid-1990s. Since then, he has placed images on the sides of corporate buildings and billboards. His work is largely site-specific, often accompanied by an element of multi-media. The artist lives and works in England.
