Very Rare AOR 2.188 San Francisco State College Acid Test Poster

Very Rare AOR 2.188 San Francisco State College Acid Test Poster

Item Description:

This three-day acid test was the last legal acid test held. It took place on September 30 and October 1-2, 1966—less than a week prior to LSD becoming illegal. It was a memorable event with the Grateful Dead headlining the shows, backed up by Mimi Farina, Congress of Wonders, The Only Alternative, and others. Ken Kesey was walking around the campus, despite the fact that he was a fugitive who had been living in Mexico. The Dead played in the ballroom and Kesey broadcast on a makeshift campus radio station that the Pranksters had assembled. These posters were produced for on-campus use; only a very small quantity was printed, and few have survived. Two types exist: one with a sticker that announces the bands, and one without. We know of roughly five posters without the sticker and only three with it. Of these posters, this is one of the finer examples and it is the epitome of a trophy piece. We last sold this poster in our March 2018 auction, where it brought $17,825. In the nearly two years since that sale, both Acid Test and trophy posters have been reaching new price levels every time they are offered.

Very Fine Minus. Scattered tack holes in the corners and edges, plus a few in the body that are hidden. Displays a little bit of paper loss in the upper left corner, a bit of handling, and corner creasing commensurate with the grade.
