Angel Botello (1913-1986) was a Spanish painter, sculptor and graphic artist. He was born in Galicia, Spain and later moved to France, where he attended the École des Beaux-Arts. In 1935, he returned to Spain and attended the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid. After the Spanish Civil War, he moved to the Dominican Republic and spent the following years traveling throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. In 1953, he moved to San Juan, Puerto Rico. During his 33 years there, he developed a distinctive style, having figurative and surrealistic influences, known as "Botellian Style”. His body of work includes paintings, lithographs, linocuts, serigraphs, and bronze sculptures.
