Amsterdam Sauer (est. 1941) is a Brazilian haute jewelry brand founded in 1941 by Frenchman Jules Sauer. During his 1963 vacation in Bahia, he obtained certification of the first commercial Brazilian emeralds produced in the country. In the following years, Amsterdam Sauer became South America’s most respected expert in Brazilian and Columbian emeralds. The Amsterdam Sauer family is also responsible for the international promotion of Brazil’s valuable and rare gems such as the imperial topaz (only found in Brazil), the Piaui precious opal, and the Paraiba tourmaline. In 1956, Amsterdam Sauer inaugurated its first store adjacent to the Copacabana Palace Hotel in Rio de Janeiro.
