Al Souza (b.1944), born in Plymouth Massachusetts, is an American artist whose cut paper and assemblage work reconfigure familiar items into abstract or surreal compositions that evoke Pop sensibility. In 1970, the artist attended the University of Massachusetts, Amherst followed by the Art Students League in New York. His early work included “photoworks”, small dioramas consisting of photographs and related items mounted in wooden boxes. Later the artist created compositions composed of jigsaw puzzles. His common subjects include vibrant plants and organic matter, buildings, and painting supplies. The artist resides in Wendell, Massachusetts and St. Croix, US Virgin Islands.
