Al Held

Al Held (1928-2005) was a leading American Abstract Expressionist painter known for his monumental Hard Edge paintings.  His work features abstract, geometric forms within non-Euclidean space, painted in fluorescent color. Born in Brooklyn, he attended the Art Students League of New York. The artist often worked in series and alternated between different conceptual styles throughout his career.  His work is in the permanent collections of the Kunstmuseum Basel, the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, D.C., and The Museum of Modern Art in New York, among others.
